Frequently Asked Questions

"Essential questions you want answered"

A wedding reflects the personality and interests of the couple, and the details of their chosen venue. That is why I believe every wedding is different, so my priority is always to listen to what people want and photograph in a way that's important to them. When booking your Wedding Photography there will be many questions you will want to ask, I have written a few background notes which you can read on Your Wedding page. Detailed below are the most Frequently Asked Questions, I hope my answers help guide you. Feel free to contact me about any aspect of your wedding.

We want you to shoot our Wedding, how do we book? Please contact me to arrange an informal chat. I always recommend meeting for a chat over coffee, as many couples have told me this was the ideal way to get the coverage best suited to them. Taking a few simple details and paying a deposit are all that is needed to secure the date for you.

Do you travel for Weddings and Couples Shoots? Absolutely, I am always amazed at the fantastic places I get to visit and wonderful people I meet. I principally work in the West Midlands, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire regions.

How far in advance should I book? I recommend booking 12 months in advance, once you have named the day check my availability. If you are planning a Saturday marriage in June - July - August, it's always best to book early to get the date you want.

We are having a short engagement, can you help? I will always do my best to be flexible and help. Best advice is to call me and check availability.

We are having a winter wedding, is this something you do? Absolutely, as I work all year round. Winter photography needs a little more attention to colour, and gives the opportunity to explore the chosen wedding venue in greater detail. Feel free to contact me, I will be delighted to chat about your needs and offer advice.

Do you photograph more than one wedding per day? No. My policy is to only accept one wedding booking per day, because people book me for my personality and ability to create the photos they want. When you book with me, you are assured that you are always my priority.

How much do you charge? I believe every wedding is different and unique to the couple and their families, so I listen to what they want to ensure they get the perfect experience. I have created a range of individual Pricing Options offering digital and album options but these are only guides, so if you have any specific needs then I would love to chat about them and see how I can help.

How much time will we need for photographs? My pricing plans are based upon how much coverage you want and what's important to you. For best results, I recommend the following:

  • 60 minutes Before the ceremony = allow more if you want bridal preparations
  • 45 minutes Ceremony = depending on your chosen wedding service.
  • 20 minutes Group Shots = with family and friends.
  • 30 minutes Couples Photos = typically in short sessions throughout the afternoon.
  • 90 minutes Wedding Breakfast = for room shots, details and speeches.
  • 90 minutes Reception = for first dance, cake cutting and candid shots of your guests.

What happens if it rains on the day? Firstly don't panic! As your appointed photographer, I will already have visited the wedding day venues and worked out the best places to shoot. I consider what we can do when the weather is glorious and when it's not so good. This is one reason why it is best to book well ahead of your big day, giving me valuable time to research the venues and deliver the images you want.

How long does it take to get my photos? Typically fully edited images are available around 3 to 4 weeks after your wedding day. I always aim to provide a dozen or so example images by the next day, so brides and grooms can share their joy with family and friends through social media.

I want my photos in an album, can you help? Yes I can. Albums are an important way to display your photographs and bring the story of your day to life. Currently I offer two types of high quality, handcrafted albums; the stunning Mats Studio collection and the gorgeous Photobook range. These are available to view on the Products: Albums page on the web site. As always, feel free to contact me if you have specific needs.

Can you help find other suppliers for my wedding? I am pleased to recommend a few trusted partners that will help make your wedding day truly special and memorable. Feel free to visit my Partners page, if you need anything special or have any questions, please contact me.

What do you recommend for bridal preparation? I strongly recommend Brides have professional hair and make-up on the day. This enhances their experience and makes them feel amazing on the morning of the wedding. The right make-up is really important and for photographic purposes, a natural looking matt finish with complementary eye and lip colours has proven to work best.
